Risks of Harm VIA Fluoride

Although Fluoride was at one time thought by dentists to be beneficial if swallowed, and by the medical establishment to be a safe additive in drinking water, this has been refuted by a large body of evidence to the contrary. This is the fundamental reason why 15 European countries have banned its usage in drinking water. Although relatively abundant in nature, as the 13th most prevalent element in the periodic table, fluoride has now been linked to a number of medical problems rather than benefits.

Problems Linked to Fluoride Include

Health Risks Associated with Fluoride

Fluoride, among other things, causes the body to increase the buildup of aluminum--an element once thought to be relatively harmless, but now linked to Alzheimer's disease and a host of other illnesses. It also makes excretion of such heavy metals more difficult, thus the threat to those already experiencing kidney impairment. Fluoride has also been found to be an "endocrine disrupter", which the National Research Council has warned can significantly block proper thyroid function in those with low iodine intake, causing depression, weight gain and decreased mental function.

Animal studies on the effects of fluoride done by the EPA in the 1990's revealed measurable dementia-like effects in its test subjects, at 1 ppm (parts per million). It has its most pronounced negative effects on children in low-income households with nutritional deficiencies. Low-income households themselves are at increased risks of harm via fluoride, as this demographic is the least prone to install water filtration systems, buy bottled water, or take supplements such as iodine.

As well, the industrial additives used in the introduction of fluoride into water supplies are likely themselves to be contributing to the harmful health effects caused by drinking such water. Chemicals such as fluorosilicic acid, sodium silicofluoride, and sodium fluoride are byproducts of the phosphate fertilizer industrial. These chemical additives, particularly fluorosilicic acid (FSA), have been linked to learning disorders, behavioral problems and higher blood lead levels in children. At greater risk are those who live in house built before 1946, as those dwellings were built using lead in brass-jointed water pipes. The lead has been found to be leached away by fluorosilicic acid, which is then deposited right into drinking glasses.

Fluoride Today

There is a great dichotomy in the world today regarding the use of fluoride. In Europe, wide swaths of the population have been given the choice of ingesting fluoride in 15 countries, whereas in America there is still a phantom of belief that it prevents dental disease, although a large body of evidence stands in opposition to that way of thinking. Enlightened communities have rallied to remove fluoride from drinking water where it exists, and prevent its use in communities where its use is being proposed. The spike in cases of autism and autism related disorders, behavioral disorders, birth defects, diabetes and thyroid problems all cry out for further attention to the problems inherent in putting chemicals such as fluoride into drinking water, and the environment in general.
